The Ton Descends on the Mother City

If your social feed has been a whirlwind of corsets, cowrie shells, and heavy silks this week, you aren’t alone. The ton officially arrived in Cape Town, and they didn’t just show up, they made history.

Netflix South Africa transformed the iconic Zeitz MOCAA into a Regency era fever dream for the African premiere of Bridgerton Season 4. The theme? AfroCouture Masquerade. And let’s be real, nobody does a theme like we do. Leading the charge was our very own Queen B, Bonang Matheba, who hosted the evening looking like a literal dream in a soft pink, feathered masterpiece by Mazelle Bridal. Seeing her back in “Top Billing” mode alongside Jonathan Boyton-Lee gave us all the nostalgia we didn’t know we needed.

The carpet was a masterclass in multifaceted style. We saw Masali Baduza who is officially joining the franchise as Michaela Stirling looking breathtaking in a deep purple ensemble that commanded the room. From Zozibini Tunzi’s architectural cowrie-shell gown to Blue Mbombo’s emerald green “Scalo” moment, the message was clear, African elegance and Regency drama are a match made in heaven.

But now that the gala lights have dimmed, it’s time for the best part of the weekend. While the stars were out in Cape Town, the rest of us can finally indulge in the main event.

Part 1 of Season 4 is officially streaming, and it’s everything we hoped for. This season follows the bohemian and artistic Benedict Bridgerton as he navigates a “Cinderella-esque” romance with the mysterious Sophie Baek. If you’ve been looking for a reason to cancel those Friday night plans, this is it.

How to Binge the Bridgerton Way

The modern Ladycentric woman knows that a binge-watch is only as good as the ambiance. Here’s how to do it right:

  • The Wardrobe: Trade your work week heels for your most luxurious silk pajamas or a plush robe. Comfort is the new couture.
  • The Spread: Think “Regency Tea” , some snacks, and perhaps a candle that smells like a London garden in spring.
  • The Pace: There are only four episodes in Part 1 (we have to wait until February 26th for the rest!), so savour them. No spoilers in the group chat until at least Sunday night!

Whether you’re still reeling from Bonang’s host look or you’re ready to dive headfirst into Benedict’s love life, this weekend is about indulging in the fantasy.

Dearest reader, the social season has officially begun. See you on the sofa.
